Fuel Trip Costs in Pakistan: Formula & Worked Example
Three numbers decide any trip's fuel bill: distance, your vehicle's mileage, and the petrol price. This guide shows the formula and a worked trip you can check against the calculator.
Try it yourself: Fuel Trip Calculator — enter your distance, mileage and fuel price for your own trip cost.
The formula
- Litres needed = distance (km) ÷ mileage (km per litre).
- Trip cost = litres needed × fuel price per litre.
- Cost per km = trip cost ÷ distance.
- Round trip cost = trip cost × 2.
Worked example (calculator's example inputs)
Distance 350 km, mileage 12 km per litre, petrol at the calculator's example price of Rs 265.20 per litre:
- Litres needed = 350 ÷ 12 = 29.17 litres.
- Trip cost = 29.17 × Rs 265.20 = Rs 7,735.
- Cost per km = Rs 7,735 ÷ 350 = Rs 22.10 per km.
- Round trip = Rs 7,735 × 2 = Rs 15,470.
The petrol price above is the calculator's example input, shown so the arithmetic can be followed. On the live site the calculator pre-fills the current petrol price from the latest rates, so your own result will use today's price — always enter the price you actually paid or expect to pay.
Assumptions behind these figures
- Constant mileage of 12 km per litre for the whole trip — real mileage varies with traffic, load, AC and road condition.
- One-way distance of 350 km; round trip is simply the one-way cost doubled.
- Fuel price is an example input (Rs 265.20 per litre), not a live price — check current OGRA-notified prices before a real trip.
- Tolls, food, stays and servicing are not included — this is fuel only.
Common mistakes
- Guessing mileage. City mileage and highway mileage differ a lot — use your vehicle's real figure, measured over a full tank, not the brochure number.
- Forgetting the return leg. Budget the round trip unless you really are driving one way.
- Using a stale petrol price. Prices are revised frequently in Pakistan — a month-old price can throw the estimate off by hundreds of rupees.
- Ignoring traffic and load. AC, extra passengers and city traffic all cut mileage, so a tight budget should add a small margin.

The figures in this guide use the Fuel Trip Calculator's example inputs as of October 2026, with the petrol price labelled as an example. For a real trip, enter the current pump price — the live calculator pre-fills it from the latest rates.
