About this calculator

Weak, reused passwords are how most accounts get taken over. This generator creates truly random passwords using your browser’s cryptographic random number generator, with your choice of uppercase, lowercase, digits and symbols and any length from 8 to 64 characters.

The strength meter shows the password’s entropy in bits — a real measure of guessing difficulty — rated Weak, Fair or Strong. Everything is generated locally on your device; nothing is sent over the internet or stored.

How to use

Frequently asked questions

Are generated passwords sent to a server?

No. Generation happens entirely in your browser using the Web Crypto API, and nothing leaves your device.

What does the strength meter mean?

It shows entropy in bits — the mathematical difficulty of guessing. Above about 80 bits is considered strong; longer passwords and bigger character sets raise it.

What length should I use?

16+ characters with mixed sets is strong for most accounts. For important accounts like email and banking, use 20 or more.
